Matzke Park is located on the corner of Grant and Jones roads in northwest Houston. It has a little bit of everything. The Harris County Precinct 4 website lists it as being 19.4 acres which a great amount of space for this area of town. There is a paved walking/running trail with exercise stations that is just under 3/4 of a mile. Soccer fields, playground equipment, a batting cage, picnic pavilions, restrooms and a butterfly garden round out the list of amenities in this park.
What We Loved
The butterfly garden was a nice touch. Even though there were only a few butterflies at the time of our visit, the benches and gazebo made it a nice spot for an outdoor lunch. The diversity of the park was nice as well. During our trip the boys ate lunch, rode their bikes along the trail, stopping at the exercise stations along the way and then enjoyed some time at the playground.
What We'd Like To See Instead
This park is in a very busy area and there isn't really any way to hide it. Road traffic is visible and loud. Despite these things it is a great park and we enjoyed our time here. One additional note: There was a bridge on one of the play structures that was roped off due to damage. As this was our first time at the park, I am unaware of how long this has been an issue.
